State of the Navy 2025
Are we heading towards a new landmark in the shipbuilding?
This year might be a game changer for the US Navy fleet in terms of providing better support to enhance its fleet.
The bipartisan SHIPS Act, introduced by Congress in December, received great applause. The bill aims to revitalize U.S. shipbuilding—naval and commercial—along with the U.S. shipping industry and the Merchant Marine workforce. Mike Waltz, a congressman from Florida who is now President Trump’s national security adviser, was the leading figure of this bill.
This bill is expected to be executed in sync with the FORGED Act of Sen. Wicker. This act stresses the following main agendas: speeding up the contracting of the Pentagon which includes shipbuilding by reducing bureaucracy, maximizing competition, and adopting new-age technological innovation. Amphibious ships and submarines have been the major agenda pushed by the Senate arms chair along with allocating a bigger budget.
The executive branch of the White House is overseeing the execution of the proposed new project. The American President Donald Trump has given an executive order on April 9th to restore America’s Maritime Dominance. He has decided November 5th as a deadline to come up with a plan to revitalize and rebuild domestic maritime industries and workforce to promote national security and economic prosperity.
May 24th has been decided as a deadline to recommend competitive strategies and ensure effective cost-cutting in government vessel construction. Trump has also stressed proposing a defense budget of about one trillion dollars as opposed to the previous plan of spending 892 billion dollars.
This act aims at restoring the maritime dominance of America. This act lays special stress upon development of workforce, maritime collaboration, security reforms, financial support and strategy shifts to empower the US Navy. This act will prove to be land mark in expanding the US Navy and its dominance all over the world. It will also help the Navy to achieve its long term security goals.
India, U.S. tri-service HADR exercise, ‘Tiger Triumph’ concludes on the Eastern seaboard of India.
Tiger Triumph is an amphibious Humanitarian Assistance and Relief (HADR) exercise that is held between The United States and India. It aims to enhance combined combat drills, jointmanship, and interoperability between the two powerful armed forces. Its fourth edition was concluded on Friday, April 11 on the eastern coast of India.
The fourth edition of this joint military exercise witnessed a new aspect that was added to its dimension. Both the United States space force and the Indian states force came together to strengthen their armed forces using satellite technology to maximize their awareness, planning, and execution.
To quote the Navy’s statement, “Conducted from April 1st to 11th, the exercise provided invaluable training in HADR operations and familiarized participants with each other’s capabilities, techniques, and procedures. Notably, Exercise Tiger Triumph was first held in 2019, with the primary aim of strengthening operational synergies, facilitated by logistics exchange under the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) and towards integrating emerging technologies between the two militaries”.
The center of attraction during this prestigious joint military exercise between two powerful Armed forces was Visitors Day. Some of the complex operations executed during the event at and off Kakinada include stand-off and hard beaching landings, and slithering operations by special operations Forces from the Indian Army’s Southern Command. The military exercise used Mi-17V5 helicopters and it witnessed the participation of C-130 aircraft. The integrated air operations involved the three Indian Services, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Marine Corps.
From April 1 to April 7, the exercise witnessed The Harbour Phrase at Visakhapatnam. Multiple pre-sale conferences were held followed by subject matter expert exchanges detailing technologies like medical, drone, and space capabilities. According to the Navy’s statement, this phase covered some special features like cross-deck visits, ship boarding drills, and friendly sports fixtures.
Followed by the Harbour Phase, the sea phase of this joint military exercise was conducted. This phase started on April 8 and concluded on April 11. It covered complex maritime operations, cross-deck aircraft landings, troop landings at Kakinada, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) activities. A coordination center was also established to cover high-scale joint military operations. It was one of the main focus areas of the HADR exercise. A joint relief and Medical camp was also established by the US Navy Medical Team and its Indian counterparts.
The Navy reiterated “Exercise Tiger Triumph 2025 marks a significant milestone in reinforcing the shared commitment of India and the United States towards regional stability, disaster response cooperation, and enhancing interoperability between their armed forces,”
